• Acupuncture for Pain Management

  • Treatment for chronic and acute pain is the number one reason people seek treatment at our clinic. Headaches, back, neck, joint pain, and arthritis are very successfully treated with acupuncture. Our clinic specializes in pain management, and our practitioners have advanced training in the most effective acupuncture methods for quickly reducing pain levels. Our goal is 50% reduction or better during a single acupuncture treatment. Other modalities such as described here may be used in conjunction with acupuncture to achieve the best possible outcome when treating pain conditions.

    Length of Treatment Needed

Often, relief is generated within a few minutes of placing the needles on the body. Patients are often pleasantly startled by how quickly their symptoms respond to the treatment. Depending on the severity and longevity of the symptom, follow-up visits will be necessary to sustain long-lasting relief. One month of treatment is often enough to take severe pain down to a manageable level, and acute pain to diminish significantly or disappear entirely. Each case is individually differentiated by your practitioner. This produces a thorough understanding for how long your condition may take to treat and what you can expect from each treatment.

Sophisticated Technique – The Balance Method

Our clinic utilizes a sophisticated technique for treating pain called the Balance Method. This allows us to stimulate acupuncture points on different areas of the body than where the pain is located. For instance, back pain may be treated by placing needles in acupuncture points on the back of the hand, as seen in the photo. Shoulder pain may be treated using points near the knee, and headaches and migraines can be treated using points on the feet. This method produces relief without any chance of aggravation. As each case is individually analyzed, your practitioner may determine in some cases that treatment at the site of the pain is indicated.

    Treatment for Degenerative Conditions

In the case of arthritis, even when the cartilage is gone or greatly reduced and bones are pressed up against one another, there can be a degree of relief from acupuncture treatment. This is due to acupuncture’s ability to reduce inflammation in the body. Inflammation of surrounding tissues can cause bones to press against nerves or against each other. Reducing this inflammation with acupuncture can reduce the pain even when cartilage is compromised. Although this treatment cannot cure a degenerative condition like arthritis, the amount of daily medication needed can often be greatly reduced.

    Treatment for Acute Conditions

In acute conditions, such as from an injury, acupuncture therapy can quickly restore range of motion (e.g., frozen shoulder) and reduce discomfort and inflammation so that the body can heal quickly.
